The Good Behavior Game at Home

Behavior science tells us the principles that underlie human behavior. It gives us some insight into why we do some of the things we do and how the environment impacts the choices we make. As parents, this information can help us create a space that aligns with the values we share as a family.

One way to do this is by using the Good Behavior Game. This game is a fun and structured way to encourage positive behaviors in your kids. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Identify the behaviors you want to encourage. Maybe you want your child to put away their toys without being asked or to speak kindly to their siblings.

Step 2: Set up a system for earning points when your child exhibits these positive behaviors. You can use a whiteboard or a chart to keep track of the points.

Step 3: Establish clear rules for the game. Let your child know how many points they need to earn a reward and what the consequences are for negative behaviors.

Step 4: Choose rewards that will motivate your child to participate in the game. This can be a special item or activity.

Step 5: Start playing! Encourage your child to exhibit the goal behaviors and reinforce them when they do.

By using the Good Behavior Game, you can turn positive behavior into a fun and rewarding game. Plus, it gives your kids a sense of control and agency over their own behavior. And who doesn't love a little friendly competition?

But remember, the most important thing is to focus on positive behaviors and provide positive reinforcement. Instead of punishing negative behaviors, praise positive ones. A little positivity goes a long way!

In conclusion, ABA and the Good Behavior Game are fantastic tools for encouraging positive behavior in your kids. By setting clear goals, rules, and rewards, you can turn good behavior into a fun and rewarding game. So let's start playing and create a happy and positive home environment for our families!
